XPLORER64  a.k.a.  XPLODER64 The Instruction Manual.

N64 Xploder 64 / Xplorer 64 for Nintendo 64 - BLAZE VIDEO GAME ACCESSORIES on N64

Instruction Manual: Xplorer 64 blows your N64 games wide open, allowing you to gain access to in-game secrets never found before.
Such as: Infinite health, lives, ammo, unlock all extra weapons, vehicles, characters, level select, moon jump, invincibility and much more.
In short terms: The Xplorer 64 brings new life to all your favourite Nintendo 64 games!
Xplorer 64 and Xploder 64 are the exact same cheat code devices for N64!

Connecting your Xplorer 64:
1. Ensure your console is turned off.
2. With the LED button and curve of the cartridge facing forwards, insert the Xplorer 64 cartridge into the console cartridge  port.

3. Insert any game cartridge into the Xplorer 64 with the label facing towards the front of the console in the normal manner.
4. Now switch on the console.

5. After a couple of seconds, you should see the Xplorer 64 Main Menu.
6. If you do not see the Main Menu, you are probably using one of the games that require a different Boot Mode.
Please refer to the section at the end of the manual regarding Boot Modes.

Selecting Cheat Codes: Once Xplorer 64 is up and running you will see the Main Menu.
From this screen you can start the game with no cheats, if you prefer, alternatively:

1. Highlight the “Select Cheats” bar using the Control-Stick or, the Directional-Pad (D-pad)
and press the A-button, to go to the cheat selection screen.
2. Use D-pad up / down, on your controller to cycle through the available cheats
(L or R will scroll the names quickly, if you need a cheat near the end of the list)
3. Once you have found the game you are looking for (the blue pointer is pointing at the game), you can do any of the following;

a) C-right views the available cheats
b) Keeping the pointer on the game and pressing the A-button, will activate all the cheats for that game, or
c) Moving the pointer to a specific cheat and pressing the A-button, will activate that cheat only. All active cheats will be shown in green.
d) Press Start-button to return to the Main Menu. Important: (M) Must be on codes will not turn green when activated. They activates automatically, when an ordinary code is enabled!
In other words, you cannot start or boot the game, withouth, at least, one ordinary code is enabled / turned on / activated!

The bottom of the screen will now show the name of the game you have selected cheats for and how many cheats are active for that game.
If you are happy with your selection, highlight “Start Game” and press the A-button on your controller.

The game will start with your selected cheats active.

Adding new cheats: You can add, up to, a maximum of, 500 cheat codes to Xplorer 64.
These can be easily added from

You can also use Action Replay TM and Equalizer TM, cheat codes, but
the encrypted, Xplorer 64 codes, will not work on other cheat code cartridges.

You will notice the cheats are split into three areas: The Game Name, Cheat Description and Cheat Codes.

Your first step is to enter the game name.
1. Select “Select Cheats” from the Main Menu.
2. At the top of the list you will see “Add New Game”. Move the pointer there and press the A-button.
3. You can now enter the name of the game. Using the Control-Stick or D-pad, select each of the letters in turn and press the A-button,
to spell out the game name.
Pressing the L or R buttons will move the cursor left and right and pressing the C-left button will delete a character / letter.
4. When you have finished entering your game name, press Start or select “OK”. If you wish to abandon the entry, select 'Can' to cancel.

Now you should enter the cheat description (e.g. Infinite Lives)
1. Highlight the Game Name you have just entered and press the C-right button.
2. Move to the “Add New Description” and press the A-button.
3. You can now enter the Cheat Description in the same way as you entered the game name.
4. Press Start-button or select “OK” to complete the procedure.

Finally, you can enter the cheat code itself;
1. Go to the Game Name you have entered and press the C-right button.
2. Now move the pointer to the Cheat Description you have just entered and press the C-right button.
3. Now move the pointer to “Add Cheat Code” and press the A-button.
4. Again, you can enter the code in the same manner as above, but you can only enter the numbers: 0 to 9 and letters A, B, C, D, E and F.
These are the only figures a code can consist of.
5. Enter the sequence of 8 + 4 (12) characters ensuring that you enter the code correctly.
If you make a mistake, you will need To amend the code as it will not work correctly.
When you leave the cheat screen, your new codes will be stored in Xplorer 64's memory.
You must enter “Start Game” to ensure that new codes and alterations are safely stored in the Xplorer’s memory.
Turning the power off, right after entering new games or codes, will delete any alterations you may have performed.
You can delete the cheats at a later date if required. You can activate new cheats as described in “Selecting Cheat Codes”.

You do not need to enter the game name again if you add another cheat at a later date. Simply highlight the game name
again, and view the current cheats, for that game, and simply add a new code description and code within that game-name.
IMPORTANT: Starting with Special Games: Some games requires the Xplorer 64 and console to be started differently than normal.
In the past, other cheat cartridges have required you to send your cheat cartridge back to the manufacturer to be updated.
Xplorer 64 has a unique Key-Code system which allows access to any existing and forthcoming games for entering your cheat codes.

If, after following the above instructions, “Connecting your Xplorer 64” you are faced with a blank screen,
you will probably need to change the Boot Mode on your Xplorer 64.

Special Game Boot Modes

The Xplorer 64 comes initially with 4 Boot Modes that currently cover all existing N64 games titles.

Boot Mode 1: LED constantly ON (red light flashes): GoldenEye, Lylat Wars, Mario Kart 64, Star Wars,
Super Mario 64 and MOST other games.

Boot Mode 2: 1080 Snowboarding, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Diddy Kong Racing, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards,
Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside, Paper Mario, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Stadium 2 and Super Smash Brothers.

Boot Mode 3: Cruis'n World, F-Zero X and Yoshi's Story.

Boot Mode 4:  Conker's Bad Fur Day, Jet Force Gemini, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time,
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Mickey's Speedway USA and Perfect Dark.

To change the Boot Mode:
With the power still on, press the button on the Xplorer 64 once, the LED will flash once. Turn the power off and wait 5 to 10 seconds.
Power up your console.

If the game does not work, repeat the above procedure - each press of the button will switch to the next Boot Mode.
This will cycle through each of the current Boot Modes. Boot Mode 1 is shown with the LED constantly ON.

To return to Boot Mode 1 (LED ON) from any other mode, press and hold the button for approximately 5 to 10 seconds.

To change the Boot Mode: Follow the procedure “Connecting your Xplorer 64” if you are faced with a black screen;
1. With the power still on, press the button on the Xplorer 64 once, the LED will flash once.
2. Turn the power off and wait for 5 to 10 seconds.
3. Power up your console.

If the game does not work (Boot), repeat the above procedure. Each press of the button will switch to the next Boot Mode.
This will cycle through each of the current Boot Modes. Boot Mode 1 shown with the LED (red light) constantly ON.

Code Constructor: The most powerful part of the Xplorer 64. No longer do you have to wait for new codes to be created.
Note: You MUST have the 4 Megabyte (MB) Memory Expansion Pak fitted, before you can use the Code Constructor (In-Game Trainer)
Creating new codes may sound complex and will certainly look a little daunting at first. However, with patience and practice you’ll realise
that it’s great fun and 'easy' to do. First of all, to enable the In-Game Trainer; simply press the R-button, on your controller, when on the
Xplorer 64, main menu screen, and a message will be displayed, informing you, that the In Game-Trainer, now is enabled.

NB: Please note that many codes on the Xplorer 64 will only be working with the InGame-Trainer enabled.
Also, a great deal of codes will only be working, with the 4 Megabit, N64, Expansion Pak, fitted in your N64.

INFO: The Expansion Pak allows the Random Access Memory (RAM) of the Nintendo 64 console to increase from 4 Mega Bytes (MB)
to 8 Mega Bytes (MB) of contiguous main memory.

Once the game is in progress the in game cheat menu can be activated by pressing L + Start + Z buttons, this will 'freeze' the game action. Pressing Start-button will continue the game.

To find cheats is “straightforward”. Xplorer 64 uses the principle that somewhere in memory is a value that corresponds to your Lives or Energy. This value usually goes down. All you have to do is tell Xplorer 64 what is happening to the value you wish to find (for example have lost a Life) and Xplorer 64 will find the cheat for you. We recommend that you first search for a value that already exists in Xplorer 64 to give you a feel for using the Code Constructor. Infinite Lives is always easier to find than Energy or Level Select, so it’s a good idea to try familiar, lives based, games as your first try.

01. With your Xplorer 64 in place, load the game and start playing – let’s say you’ve got 5 lives.
02. Activate the In-game Menu. Press: L + Start + Z.
03. Now select the “Code Finder” option.
04. As we know the value we are looking for (i.e. “5” lives) then we should select the “Search for a known Value” option.
05. Enter “5” on the “Enter new Value to search” screen and press the A-button. The Xplorer 64 will start searching.
06. When finished – you will see a number of possible codes on a new screen – this is almost to high at this stage.
07. Now resume the game and lose a life.
08. Re-enter the Code Constructor and repeat the above, changing the known value to 4 lives.
This will check through the existing possibilities and see which has now changed to 4.

09. Continue this procedure until the number of possibilities is reduced to a number that can be easily tested –
don’t worry if you lose all your lives, you can start with 5 lives again and just continue searching back through 5, 4, 3 lives etc.
10. Selecting “View Results” will display the codes found. Try selecting each in turn and resuming the game – each time
trying to lose a life. If your character “dies” but your lives stay at your current level: Congratulations, you’ve found the correct code!!

The above is just one example of a code that can be found. Here is another, which is more suitable for finding an Energy Bar.
If you have already tried Infinite Lives Cheat and have been successful , then maybe you want to try and find something a little trickier.
The “Known Value” Trainer is always the easiest to use and is initially the best option for finding this type of cheat.

Lives are a specific value (i.e. 5 lives) but energy may simply be a coloured bar on-screen that has no number.
How do you search for this value? There is no value you can try. This is where the alternative Trainer types become invaluable,
because you can search for higher, lower or different values than your original search. If you start with Full Energy and perform your
search, you would then have to lose some energy and use the “Lower” value search. Fighting games are generally good for this type of codes.

With your Xplorer 64 in place, load the game and start playing.

1. With your energy bar at maximum, Activate the In-Game Trainer, by holding: L + Start + Z.

2. After selecting the Code Finder option, select “Start Unknown Search”. The Xplorer 64 will look through the system memory.
All you need to do is next time you freeze the game play is remember whether is more, less or the same.
3. Resume the game and lose some energy.
4. Now re-enter the Code Constructor. Select the Code Finder and select “Less Than”.
You obviously have less energy than the original search.

5. Resume the game and lose even more energy. Again 're-freeze' and again select the “Less Than” Value search (as in point 4)
Continue this procedure until you lose your life. Don’t worry – you don’t have to restart the trainer!
When you restart the game, 'freeze' the game play as normal, but this time select the “Greater Than” option.
On this occasion your energy is greater than last search. (The next search will again be a “Less Than” search)
6. Continue this procedure. It will take longer than a lives search, but is more thorough.
If you do make a mistake at any time, you must restart the trainer, as it will not find the cheat that you are looking for.

7. Once the possibilities at the bottom of the screen are a low enough value you may try some of them in the same way as the first
example.  Once you have found the correct value you may store it in the Xplorer 64 for later use.

NB: When you have found the codes, you will have to write them down so you can enter them into the Xplorer 64 at a later date.
        See adding new cheats, section.

Menu Options. Resume Game: Resume game.

Code Finder: Goes to the Game Code Trainer screen (either starts or resumes it). See Code Finder Menu Options below.
Xplorer 64 Codes On / Off: Switches Codes on / off.
Test Code On / off: Switches Codes on / off.
Memory Viewer: The Xplorer 64 allows you to “browse” the games system memory. Very useful for the experienced hacker!

Test Codes: The Xplorer 64 Code Constructor incorporates a “test area” for testing new your new-found codes.
This allows a number of cheat codes (up to 40) to be tested at a time. You can also enter new codes without re-setting the Xplorer 64,
or remove any old codes you may have running from previous training sessions. Please note: Not all codes are valid in this area.
Only codes starting with 00, 04, 80, 81, 84 and 85 will work.

Code Constructor, Game Trainer, Menu: Start Search: Starts the Code Constructor search engine to look for an unknown value,
e.g. Energy bar, Player position etc.
Start Search for a known value: Starts the Code Constructor trainer with a direct value search (e.g. lives, points etc.)
This is much faster than the unknown value search method.
You can use the above example to search for any known value – Either “9” lives, “50” coins, or any numbered game value.

Back to previous menu: Goes back one screen.
Once instructed to Search, the Code Constructor menus will include additional functions, dependent on the type of search;
Resume Game: Continues the game.

Greater / Less / Same / Different / Value: Performs a comparison with the last search.
For example, if you were looking for the Energy Bar, losing energy in the game prior to the next search
would mean you would perform a “Less” search. i.e. your energy is less than when you did the original search.

View Results: Displays a list of possible cheat codes found... If any?

Back to previous menu: Goes back one screen.
Upgrade: Xplorer 64 is the most upgradeable cheat cartridge in the world. If you have a friend with an Xplorer 64 and he has more cheat
codes than you, or even a more recent version of Xplorer 64, you can upgrade your cartridge to include his cheat codes / Software upgrade.
Take great care when following this procedure. Do not force any of the cartridges and ensure each one is connected correctly.

01. Turn of the console
02. Insert the most recent version of Xplorer 64 (i.e. version 1.067 / the one with the most codes) into the cartridge slot)
03. Insert the older Xplorer 64 (i.e. version 1.000) into the top of the Xplorer 64 already in the console.
04. Finally and carefully, insert any game cartridge into the top of the Xplorer 64.
05. You should now have the following from bottom to top: Console – Newer Xplorer 64 – Older Xplorer 64 – game cartridge.
06. Carefully switch the power on.
07. DO NOT remove any cartridges with the power still on.
08. If an upgrade is available, on-screen instructions will be displayed.
09. During the upgrade – Do not turn the power off.
10. Once the upgrade is completed, turn the power off and remove the cartridges.
11. You can now use your Xplorer 64 in the normal manner with the (Software upgrade) new cheats installed.
